THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS COME in all shapes and sizes. From the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to breaking the wishbone to getting together with those wacky yet lovable relatives, traditions vary from family to family, and that includes the families of our practice’s team members!

Favorite Thanksgiving Traditions

Aggie says Thanksgiving is by far her favorite holiday…good food, great company and of course leftovers, what not to like! Their family tradition is to write a card with a thankful note and your name, we place them in a special bowl and before we start dinner we randomly pull one card and read what the person on the card is thankful for. Also instead of watching football games we play various games involving whole family!

Monique says Thanksgiving is a tricky Holiday for my family because most times it occurs on my oldest brother’s birthday. With it being in such close proximity he usually gets to decide what we will eat. Sometimes he wants typical Thanksgiving food other times he opts out for Gumbo. However, regardless of which spread he chooses my siblings and I all gather at my grandmother’s house (Nana) as we like to call her. Most times she assigns each of us to bring some type of contribution to the dinner. As always, I choose to bring something indestructible like napkins, cups, plastic silver ware, or beverages. You can probably tell that neither cooking nor is baking a part of my skill set. Once we have all arrived at the time we were told dinner would be ready we wait around for two more hours until dinner is actually ready. Once everyone has decided what they would like to go on their plate we play a game of musical chairs because we always have to pull an extra one from another room and extend the leaf in the dining room table. After we have all figured out our seating arrangements, we eat and engage in conversation that usually entails telling old and embarrassing stories from our childhood. At this point, we are all stuffed and dreading the following activities, washing the dishes and putting the food away. So, I usually announce that I have another house to go to in hopes of easing my way out of chores but end up helping anyway. After the kitchen has been returned to normalcy we all slowly disperse and travel to our next destinations until the next Holiday happens where we get to do it all over again Christmas!

Favorite Thanksgiving Memories

One of Denise’s favorite Thanksgiving memories was last year.  Denise and her family moved to Geneva from Southern California 4 years ago.  Last Thanksgiving was the first one that they spent with family other than the four of them.  Denise’s mom, Luanne, flew out to spend the holiday with them.  Mother Nature provided them with a beautiful white Thanksgiving, something they never had back home.  It was glorious spending the holiday with her favorite people, her husband, two sons and her mom.  She knew her dad was enjoying the day with them from heaven.
